access ladders shall have lift-up rail extensions extending
42" (1066.8mm) above the top step of the ladder. Lift-up
rail extensions shall provide an unimpeded walkway and
shall be an integral component of all hatch ladders.

Steps
shall be no less than 2" (50.8mm) in section and
18" (457.2mm) long, formed from 6063-T6 aluminum
extrusions, and shall be smooth and rounded on front
and rear vertical surfaces with deep serrations
on the top side only to provide maximum traction.
Steps shall be able to withstand 1200 lb (3179 kg)
load without failure.
